Dr Sam Kashkavij is an imaging cardiologist, specialised in cardiac CT, coronary CT-calcium scoring and diagnostic and structural interventional echocardiography, and Director of Cardiology at North Canberra Hospital. He also works as a staff specialist at The Canberra Hospital, where he performs contrast echo, strain, 3D echoes, transoesophageal, and exercise and dobutamine stress echocardiography.
Dr Kashkavij undertook his basic physician training at the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and The Canberra Hospital. He completed his advanced cardiology training at the North Adelaide Local Health Network, where he was awarded the CSANZ best poster prize as a cardiology registrar in 2019. In Adelaide, he gained fellowship experience in general cardiology, electrophysiology, pre-heart transplant and cardiac catheterisation. Dr Kashkavij completed an advanced fellowship in echocardiography and cardiac structural interventional imaging fellowship at Flinders Medical Centre, one of Australia’s primary cardiac imaging and cardiac structural interventional imaging centres.
In 2021, Dr Kashkavij completed his level 1 CT coronary angiogram with SCCT and level A with AICCT, and earned his speciality in CT coronary angiogram/CT-calcium scoring. He currently leads cardiac CT at North Canberra Hospital.
Dr Kashkavij is dedicated to practising cardiology and producing the best cardiac outcomes for his patients. He has special interest in research, and currently teaches and supervises advanced cardiology trainees, basic physician trainees and medical students.
Outside of work, Sam loves spending time with his family as well as hiking, running and playing community soccer.
